Purpose: To provide reference and instructional information to the users of Software Management Solution by Symantec.
Software Management Solution is a component of several of the suites that are built on the Symantec Management Platform. This document contains references to other documents in the suites.
The functionality of Software Management Solution is based on several former Altiris products but the user interface and documentation are entirely new.
Audience: System administrators who deploy and manage the software applications on the client computers in their organizations' networks.
My role: Researcher, primary writer, editor.
The majority of the content is mine. Another writer wrote the topics in chapters 15 and 16 and I reorganized and edited them.
Tools used: XmetaL Author, Vasont content management system, acrocheck by acrolinx.
Corporate style: This document follows the Symantec guidelines for structured authoring and topic-based writing and meets their requirements for localization and machine translation.
Distribution: This document is distributed in PDF format with the software. The same information is delivered in WebGUI Help format, which is accessible from within the software.
Publication date: I wrote the original document for the product's initial release in February 2009 and updated the document for subsequent releases through February 2010.
