Standards and procedures

Whether acting as a lone writer, managing a writing team, or working within a larger team, I have always recognized the need to develop standard procedures and improve existing processes.

Although I was the lone writer at Computer Decisions International, I nonetheless documented all my procedures. As a result, I could easily delegate tasks when necessary and could hand off my responsibilities when I left the company.

At Wise Solutions, I ensured that our procedures were documented and that we recorded any new procedures as we developed them. Our written procedures provided scalability for our team by helping to expedite the training of new hires and contract writers.

As a senior writer in a larger team at Symantec, I helped propose the incorporation of some of our team's requirements into the Symantec standards. I also provided the Symantec editing team with examples of the topic types that are described in the Symantec content model for user guides.
