Purpose: To provide reference and instructional information to the users of the HP Client Manager software by Symantec.

HP Client Manager is provided free with the purchase of certain HP servers. Because it is built on the Symantec Management Platform, users can integrate HP Client Manager with other purchased components of the platform.

Audience: System administrators of organizations that include HP computers in their network environments. Most of these administrators are not users of the Symantec Management Platform.

My role: Researcher, writer, editor.

This document is a rewrite of the original manual for this product. The original document was written in Adobe FrameMaker and did not follow the current Symantec style guide. Because it was written in a very short time, it also did not completely cover the product's functionality. I rewrote the manual in XMetaL Author, adding the missing information and following the Symantec style guide.

Tools used: XmetaL Author, Vasont content management system, acrocheck by acrolinx.

Corporate style: This document follows the Symantec guidelines for structured authoring and topic-based writing and meets their requirements for localization and machine translation.

Distribution:

This document is distributed in PDF format with the software. The same information is delivered in WebGUI Help format, which is accessible from within the software.

Publication date: This rewrite was completed in April 2010. This sample is the final draft, which had not been reviewed or released.
